Slum Dogs prints at International Art fair.

Some prints from Slum Dogs will be on display and sale at the Open Art Fair in Utrecht in Holland. My work will be represented by the Dutch gallery Dogarthouse, who have a stand at the fair. The fair runs from Wednesday 8th September to Sunday 12th September. It looks like a really exciting event, and I only wish I could get over to Holland to visit it myself. Unfortunately work keeps me at home, but if anyone does go, let me know what its like!!

New website coming soon

I have a new pet photography website coming live soon!! It will offer much more comprehensive information and examples for the pet photography side of my business.
This site will stay up and running to continue to show-case my other photographic endeavours, but this will also be updated and added to. The pet photography site will be accessible from this address, so don’t worry, it will be easy to find. Thanks to all my clients over the past few months who have encouraged my business to grow and expand. It’s a very busy and exciting time!!

Events

I am getting involved in a few events over the coming weeks and months.
Firstly, I’ll be at the Friends of the Strays of Greece Companion dog show and fun day on Sunday 25th April at Burt’s Lane, Mannington, nr Wimbourne. It will be a chance to see some of my pet photography work up close and have a chat to me. there’ll be lots going on– It will be great day out.
Then the following weekend on the 2nd 3rd May, I will have a stand at the Hampshire Country Fair in Romsey. I’m looking forward to that one!

Slum Dogs Exhibition in Exeter

There will be an exhibition of photographs from slum Dogs on show in the cafe bar of the Phoenix arts centre in Exeter from the 30th March. It will run for approximately a month, till the 27th April.
It is a great chance to see the photos at their best.

slum dog print at auction

A framed print from Slum Dogs and signed book is going to be auctioned off at the Waggy Tails charity auction (to raise funds for the Waggy Tails charity which re-homes rescue dogs in Dorset).
There will also be a pet portraiture session with me up for grabs in another lot. Plenty more prizes will be on offer too.
The auction takes place on Friday 26th March at 7:00pm at The Quality Hotel in Gervis road, Bournemouth.
Come along– I will be there with samples and examples of my work.
It should be a great night.

The photos from Slum Dogs have featured in numerous great blogs, but I was really excited about this one.
Dog Art Today is a great blog by Moira Mclaughlin, based in California. Her blog is devoted to daily dog art from around the world. Features include contemporary dog art, the history of dogs in art, dog art auctions, books, posters, fashion and decor. I regularly visit Moira’s blog, which is refreshed with new material almost on a daily basis.

WANDERLUST

Beautifully captures the different aspects of the dogs’ daily lives. It’s a lovely book which will bring a tear to your eye.

BURNLEY EXPRESS

While this is certainly a book designed for animal lovers, it should appeal to fans of documentary photography as well… Instead of focusing on maximum cuteness Leyden has highlighted something much more poignant: the dog’s shared struggle for survival with their human cohabitants… Intimate portraits of the dogs interacting with homeless people, street vendors, workers and children at play are the real gems here, and make it much more than a cute animal picture book.

AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER

This collection of utterly beguiling pooches is by no means syrupy or sentimental, rather an enlightening voyage through the cultural highlights (and lowlights) of an incredibly vibrant part of the world, with some seriously interesting anecdotes along the way, imparted with knowledge and ease.

I was thrilled to receive a lovely letter from Jilly Cooper the other day. Here are a couple of small excerpts:

I absolutely adore your book. It’s enchanting.… I love every single dog in the book and I also adore every cat and cow and child and everything else it’s photographed with. The survival of these dogs is quite extraordinary.… Thank you so much for cheering me up.

I have just received news that a selection of images from Slum Dogs have been shortlisted in the New talent category of the Travel Photographer of the Year competition.

Judging is in December, so watch this space!!
